Subject: Avoid Blood clots

Cancer causes a tendency to clot [called a "clotting diathesis"]
Chemotherapy causes a tendency to clot.
Surgery causes a tendency to clot.

Dehydration causes a tendency to clot.
[Alcohol can cause dehydration. So can drinking tea, coffee, or cola, because caffeine causes you to pee out more than you drank in.]

Inactivity causes a tendency to clot.
[so do not sit immobile for long periods.
Do those toe curling and uncurling exercises and toe-heel exercises all the way up your legs.]

If it is very hot, or you are very active, you might need more than 4 quarts of water... [not tea, not coffee], otherwise you are taking in [probably] enough liquid, look at other factors.

Discuss with your doctor

Hope this helps,

Speaking of blood clots, I got a painful one (superficial, I believe)
in the calf of my leg following second round of AIM. This is my first blood clot ever. Been drinking the recommended 3-4 quarts of water
per day last 6 weeks. Should I drink more water? What else would
prevent another of these clots? (it happened during the "good" days of chemo cycle when I was going to get caught up on chores -- no such luck.) The clot area (inflammed red area size of a dollar coin) is starting to subside with no treatment. Starting third round of AIM
tomorrow.
Best regards, Richard
